Search Engines

Search Engines differ from databases in that they can search unstructured text on the open web, whereas a database stores and retrieves structured data only. Search engines allow you to search for information using natural language text.

Search the latest index of the world's books. Find millions of great books you can preview or read for free. Google Books is a great way to search subjects, quotes, authors, and literary sources. Often, the full text will not be available, but you can search excerpts of books for your required information.
Google Scholar This link opens in a new window
Here you can search topics, and it will return relevant, reputable articles, journals, and research. Full texts are sometimes available, while others are behind paywalls on publishers' websites.

A general database of online journals that are freely available. Major subjects include arts, humanities, business, law, nature, science, medicine, and religion.

Searches more than one billion documents, including web pages, books, encyclopedias, journals, and newspapers.
